The company Airbnb says it has generated $2.8 million dollars for homeless services in Chicago through a tax that the city enacted last year. Airbnb is a web service and smartphone app that lets travelers book rentals at other people’s homes or apartments. Last year Chicago imposed a 4 percent surcharge on each booking. The money from the tax goes toward housing homeless families in the city.
