Close to 150 people were killed and scores were wounded in attacks yesterday at Garissa University in Kenya, just over its border with Somalia. The Somalia-based Islamist group, Al-Shabaab, claimed responsibility. Hundreds who were held hostage for hours are undergoing counseling. A student who escaped said, “If you were a Christian you were shot on the spot. With each blast of the gun I thought I was going to die”. Ahmed Samatar, professor and dean of the Institute for Global Citizenship at Macalester College, will talk about the aftermath and what he thinks are viable options for dealing with the terrorist group.
