This summer, the Chicago Police Department is running a series of listening tours around the city to hear from residents on the topic of police-community relations. CPD hasn’t made the list of events public. Instead, it’s reaching out to churches and other organizations one by one to set up the meetings. As a result, there hasn’t been much media coverage of what goes on when Superintendent McCarthy and his deputies take questions from the public and listen to their concerns. We get first-hand accounts from community members Bill Curry and Arthur Jackson and Chicago Police Deputy Chief Eric Washington about the issues and questions community members are raising during the police department’s listening tours.
