Alzheimer’s disease is approaching epidemic proportions in the United States. So far most drugs and therapies just stall patients’ inevitable decline. But researchers are also looking for ways to help people with the disease reconnect with a world that’s slipping away. And they may be finding some answers using the creative arts. For renowned Chicago painter Hilda Gorenstein, making art brought back meaning and dignity to the last years of her life. Her daughter Berna Huebner co-produced a documentary film about her mother and this emerging research, called  I Remember Better When I Paint.
