As Graduation Rates Rise, Some Black Students Trail Behind

At four-year public universities where graduation rates rose between 2003 and 2013, some black students are falling behind their white counterparts. According to a recent study from Education Trust, at a third of those schools, the black graduation rate is actually declining, and at roughly half the schools, including Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, black graduation rates have gone up but not as fast as white graduation rates. 

We speak with Andrew Nichols, Director of Higher Education Research and Data Analytics at Education Trust, about what the report reveals about the problem and potential solutions.
