Two more Midwestern states are now pressuring Illinois to keep the Asian carp from entering Lake Michigan.

In all, five states, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota and now Indiana and Wisconsin, are looking to the U.S. Supreme Court to keep the Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes from the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

The attorneys general in Indiana and Wisconsin announced their support Wednesday for Michigan’s effort before the high court.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago have failed to halt the invasion of the Asian carp.

Zoeller and Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen say Asian carp poses serious environmental and economic consequences for the waters and the economy.

Illinois officials have already installed electronic barriers to block the carp from making their way up from the Mississippi River basin into Lake Michigan.
