During the 1980s, Los Angeles was home to a swirling cauldron of great bands. You had the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, and Jane’s Addiction. Then you had LA hardcore and glam metal. Throw in a megaband like Guns ‘n’ Roses … and you have a music scene for the ages. The musician Bob Forrest was at the center of it, with his band Thelonious Monster. Fans came to hear his music and lyrics, but they also came to see Bob potentially self-destruct. We hear more about his story, which is laid out in his first true solo album “Survival Songs.” He’s in town to perform at Logan Square’s City Lit books Tuesday night.
