Today is the last day in office for Cook County Board President John Stroger.

He’s official stepping down today after suffering a stroke in March.

Taking his place as president is Cook County Commissioner Bobbie Steele, who’ll be sworn in tomorrow.

Steele faces a daunting task over the next 4 months before the general election: to close a huge - and growing - budget gap, and to begin to address problems at the troubled Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

Bobbie Steele says she’ll unveil some of her plans to tackle those issues in her inaugural address tomorrow.

And she says her work on the budget deficit has already begun behind the scenes.
