For decades, Chicago writer Dave Hoekstra has guided us to fascinating places with his nightlife and travel columns for the Chicago Sun Times. He’s also stretched out a bit by writing a few books. His 2013 ‘Supper Club Book’ brought us to woodsy midwestern dining rooms. Hoekstra explores the history and personalities of America’s soul kitchens with his new book “The People’s Place: Soul Food Restaurants and Reminiscences from the Civil Rights Era to Today.” He’s celebrating the book Thursday night at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn (where there’ll be soul food and soul music).
