In 2011, Burma began a transition to democracy after decades of military rule. The transition is anything but complete. Most recently the country has seen a surge in sectarian violence and the government has faced allegations of state-sponsored persecution of its Rohingya Muslim minority. Thant Myint-U, the founder of the Yangon Heritage Trust and author of several books on Burma including Burma: The Making of Modern Burma, joins us to discuss the current political situation.
