In Canada, prostitution is legal. But it was illegal to own or operate a brothel, live off the avails of prostitution and communicate in public for the purposes of prostitution. By a unanimous vote of 9 to 0, the court ruled these laws unconstitutional and overly broad, a victory for the three current and former sex workers who brought the challenge. We’ll discuss the ruling with Hilla Kerner, spokeswoman for the Women’s Coalition for the Abolition of Prostitution. Her organization testified before the court.
