After a week like this one, we all could use a little smart and sober reflection, and the Chicago Book Expo taking place on Sunday at Columbia College’s Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash, offers not one but two opportunities featuring your faithful blogger.

First up is A Tribute to Roger Ebert, the Writer starting at noon in Film Row Cinema’s big eight-floor theater and featuring friends and colleagues of the late great film critic discussing and reading his work. Those featured include Roger’s beloved Chaz Ebert, Tribune film critic Michael Phillips, Roger’s longtime editor Laura Emerick, Pamela Sherrod Anderson, Tribune columnist Rick Kogan and this critic, who (spoiler alert) plans to read his mentor’s review of Triumph of the Will. It just seems appropriate.

I’ll have a hand in the next session, too, as moderator of a panel on recent Chicago music books featuring Steve Krakow (My Kind of Sound: The Secret History of Chicago Music), Sally Timms of the Mekons (Mekons Existentialism), and John Dugan (The Empty Bottle Chicago: 21+ Years Music/Friendly/Dancing). After-Words Bookstore will have these fine titles on hand, and the authors certainly will be honored to sign them.
