The Chicago Jewish Day School is hosting a “Water Walk” event that stimulates the everyday lived experience of South Sudanese women and girls who walk miles to get water. This event arose out of concern by a 7th grade class that had been learning about the water crisis in Sudan. The students were greatly impacted by the hard realities of women and girls who spend so much time out of their day and risk their safety to retrieve water for their family. The class is on a mission to inform Chicagoans about this issue and to raise donations for “Water for South Sudan”, an organization that builds wells in South Sudan and provides “access to clean, safe water and improving hygiene practices in areas of great need.” To discuss the importance of water equality we will be joined by some students from the Chicago Jewish Day School. The Water Walk will be held on Friday, September 28.
