Chicago women are getting together in August as part of the Big Latch event, where they come out and breastfeed in public. Many people have heard of the terms reproductive health and reproductive rights but few have heard of the term reproductive justice. The event entitled “Amamantando Juntas” will be held on August 5th to fight for fair and equal access for reproductive care. This event is co-hosted by Chicago Volunteer Doulas, a birth justice organization that provides doula support for vulnerable communities in the Chicagoland area. To discuss reproductive justice and why doulas are at the forefront of this movement we are joined by Amy I. Catania, the volunteer executive director of Chicago Volunteer Doulas, Jeanine Valrie Logan, a nurse, doula, and certified lactation education specialist, and Stephanie Martinez, a midwifery student, doula, and registered nurse.
