The Chicago Bears face off against the San Francisco 49ers Monday night—and both will be without their star quarterbacks. Jay Cutler and Alex Smith are both nursing concussion injuries; a hot topic on sports talk radio and at local high schools.

Rich Monis is the head athletic director at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville. He said the school’s football teams use the same cognitive testing system as the NFL.

“If the NFL teams and medical staff are holding out players for head injuries to protect them, you know, it shouldn’t be any different with a high school kid,” he said.

Monis said Cutler’s benching is a good lesson for his own team. He said they had to bench one of their star players this weekend, due to a concussion injury.

Neuqua Valley lost that game and are now out of the playoffs.
