The year, the Chicago International Film Festival’s ‘Spotlight’ series focuses on films from Africa. Films included this year hail from Algeria, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Festival programming director Mimi Plauché explains how they selected the films. Plus, Moroccan independent filmmaker Hakim Belabbes tells us what it takes to make an independent film in Africa.
