Chicago hosted fewer trade shows than Orlando and Las Vegas in 2005.

Greg Saunders, the chairman of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, isn’t worried.

But he says the city could do more to lure business.

“I think what’s happened now is a lot of the cities that are right-to-work states have really started to penetrate our market and they target us based upon the cost to do business in McCormick Place and I think it’s something that is going to become our Achilles’ heel,” Saunders says.

Saunders also says that attendance at trade shows in Chicago is up from last year.
