A new report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau says more catalytic converters are stolen off of cars in Chicago than anywhere else in the U.S.

The converters, which help control emissions, can cost upwards of $1000 to replace, but thieves will often get under $100 for them aftermarket.

That’s according to Steve Cable, a manager at Gateway Auto Service in Chicago. Cable says he isn’t surprised Chicago is a hotspot for catalytic converter thieves because so many people park on the street and it doesn’t take long to rip off the parts.
