Chicago likely to keep ‘snowpocalypse’ crown this winter. Take that, New York

This winter, Chicagoans will likely endure the worst winter in the U.S., according to AccuWeather.com.  

Such a claim would add fuel to the winter coals over bragging rights about, which city gets to use the term “snowpocalypse.” Where will snowed-in smartphone users check in on Foursquare?

According to AccuWeather’s Long-Range Forecasting Team, La Niña will be the culprit for what’s anticipated to be a brutally cold and snowy winter. From AccuWeather:

“La Niñas often produce a volatile weather pattern for the Midwest and Northeast during winter due to the influence they have on the jet stream.”

They go on to say that the way the jet stream is expected to be positioned during this winter’s La Niña will tend to drive storms through the Midwest and Great Lakes, and said instead of New York City enduring the worst of winter this year, it will likely be Chicago.

So while New York and others will be panicking, Chicagoans can look forward to more wintery scenes that look like they came straight out of the “Day After Tomorrow.”
