Chicago Police Chief Says Fundamental Reform Is Already Underway

Last week, the city released video from an incident in which police apparently shot 18 year-old Paul O’Neal in the back—sparking new protests. 

When asked asked how he might reassure protesters that he’s acting on their concerns, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said, “I think they’re seeing that we are trying to make some fundamental changes. We released that video in seven days—when have you seen that? All these things we’re talking about didn’t happen overnight, and they won’t be rectified overnight. But you have to start somewhere, and we’ve started that change, and we’ll continue on.”
