Crediting more people who are biking to work, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he wants to add more bike lanes to city streets.

He’s expected another 50 miles of protected lanes those with curbed concrete barriers installed to protect bikers from drivers within the next three years. The city’s department of transportation says nine new or improved lanes will be finished by the end of this year.

The city’s bike lane website shows that while most lanes are on the North Side or in the downtown area, it hopes to install more lanes to the west and south side of the city.
