Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot won on a message of ending the “Chicago Way” — where who you know determines whether your street gets paved or your business gets licensed. A big part of this is known as aldermanic privilege.
But what does that actually mean, and can a mayor end a practice that’s as Chicago as hot dogs and snowstorms? To help unpack this issue, WBEZ’S Melba Lara talked with City Politics Reporter Claudia Morell.
