Janai Brugger is an opera singer who has performed on stages across the country and around the world. Winning prestigious contests early in her career vaulted her into the limelight, but her ability to deliver warm performances for a variety of roles keeps her there.

A Chicago native, Brugger did her undergrad at DePaul University, and got her first taste of professional opera with the Chicago Opera Company. From there it was on to study with groundbreaking African-American singer and teacher Shirley Verrett at the University of Michigan, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Brugger returns to her alma mater for a concert at Gannon Concert Hall on DePaul’s Lincoln Park Campus, May 8 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the DePaul events website
