Chicago-based chip maker Vitner Co. was sold to California company Snak King Corp., the firm announced on Tuesday.

Vitner’s has been a staple to Chicago stores, restaurants and bars for decades. The company was founded in Chicago in 1926, according to Vitner’s website.

“Joining with Snak King enables Vitner’s to deliver a truly nationwide solution to our customers in terms of products, distribution and services,” said Bill Vitner, Chairman and CEO of C.J. Vitner. “Snak King has been at the forefront of our industry in quality and innovation, and we are delighted to have joined their team.”

The company said there are no plans at all for any staff reductions.

“This should have no effect on employment at all,” said Alexander Auerbach, a spokesman for the Snak King.

Although a name brand in Chicago, the snack manufacturer didn’t produce their own line of foods until 1977, according to the company’s website.  Before that, they had distributed the products of other companies.  Today, the company’s snacks are in local grocery stores, bars and restaurants.

Snak King, based in City of Industry, near Los Angeles, serves the national market with “organic, kosher, Hispanic and traditional snacks under The Whole Earth, El Sabroso, Granny Goose, Jensen’s Orchard and Snak King brands,” according to the company’s statement.

“We have known the Vitner family for many years, both as distributors of El Sabroso products in the Midwest and as highly respected leaders in our industry,” said Barry Levin, Chairman and CEO of Snak King.

“We are very proud that they have chosen to become part of the Snak King organization and are entrusting to us their heritage of more than eight decades of quality.”
