City Officials Celebrate The Story Of A Living Legend

The theme for this year’s “One Book, One Chicago” program is “Music: The Beat of Our City,” and the selected book honors someone who’s still making music and wowing crowds. I’ll Take You There: Mavis Staples, the Staple Singers and the Music that Shaped the Civil Rights Era is this year’s selection, which was written by Sound Opinions co-host and Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot.

We talk to Jennifer Lizak from Chicago Public LIbrary and Greg Kot about why the book fit the bill and how it’s about so much more than music.
