While much is disputed about how to pay for health care, another important focus is filling the gap in services. Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act may now allow patients to pay for care, but the lack of providers in underserved areas can leave residents’ physical and mental health unattended. Cook County has almost 200 community health centers- many of them serving communities with limited or no access to health care.
