After many threats and several last minute bail-outs for the Chicago Transit Authority, doomsday is here. The CTA is broke—$300 million in the red, and there’s no one helping them this time. Mayor Daley failed last week to get the CTA and union officials to agree to some cost cutting measures that could bring back some of the more than 1,000 workers laid off or restore service that was eliminated or reduced. WBEZ’s Tony Arnold has been out in the field and has this update.
