Congressman Bobby Rush says Governor Pat Quinn should stop asking two University of Illinois Trustees to resign.

Quinn has been asking trustees to step down for weeks now. That’s after an admissions scandal revealed that politically connected applicants were often given preference over others.

All but two U of I trustees have submitted their letters of resignation to the governor. But the holdouts aren’t showing signs of giving in, and now they’re being backed by Congressman Bobby Rush.

In a letter sent to Governor Quinn today, Rush calls trustee James Montgomery an “outstanding citizen.” And he says trustee Frances Carroll is a person of honor and high moral character.

Rush says he hopes Quinn will reconsider his request for their resignations.
