On Tuesday, Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez officially announced he won’t seek re-election next year to the seat he’s held since 1993. He’s endorsing Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia to replace him. Gutierrez is emphatic that he’s not retiring but going to fight for immigrants and Puerto Rican, though he didn’t rule out another run for office in the future. He says he felt comfortable not running again because of Garcia. Garcia says he’s running to be a voice from the Midwest for immigrant rights. Chicago Aldermen Carlos Ramirez-Rosa and Joe Moreno are also considering a run in the March Democratic primary.
