Cook County Chief Judge: Holding Juvenile Probable-Cause Hearings On Weekends Will Cost Extra Money

The chief judge of Cook County Circuit Court is asking the County Board for extra money to pay for juvenile probable-cause hearings on weekends.

The court is now will hold hearings for minors 365 days a year. Kids won’t have to spend as long as three days locked up before getting to see a judge. On Monday, Chief Judge Timothy Evans asked the County Board to fund eight more staff positions for the weekend hearings.
