The CTA is proposing a fare increase on bus and rail lines to help balance its 2018 budget. If approved by the CTA board next month, the fare increase will be the transit agency’s first price hike since 2009. Rail and bus base fares will increase 25 cents per trip, and unlimited monthly passes will go up $5 dollars. The CTA’s overall proposed budget for next year is $1.5 billion. CTA President Dorval Carter says the rate hikes are because there’s less money coming from the state.
