After working a number of years in Africa with the World Health Organization fighting cholera, tuberculosis and AIDS, Chicago physician, Dr. Gary Slutkin, came to the conclusion that violence is a public health issue. As a result, he came back to Chicago and formed the group Cure Violence to implement this theory into violence prevention strategies across numerous U.S. cities. Dr. Slutkin’s project was the subject of award-winning documentary, “The Interrupters.” Since we last spoke with Slutkin in 2012, Cure Violence has expanded globally into countries such as Honduras, South Africa and Iraq.
