After working a number of years in Africa with the World Health Organization fighting cholera, tuberculosis and AIDS, Chicago physician, Dr. Gary Slutkin, came to the conclusion that violence is a public health issue. As a result, he came back to Chicago and formed the group Cure Violence to implement this theory into violence prevention strategies across numerous U.S. cities. Dr. Slutkin’s project was the subject of award-winning documentary, “The Interrupters.” Since we last spoke with Slutkin in 2012, Cure Violence has expanded globally into countries such as Honduras, South Africa and Iraq. He’ll join us with Brent Decker, director of international programs for Cure Violence. (Photo: Flickr/YOUmedia Chicago Public Library)
