Dan Savage is an author, journalist, podcaster and LGBT advocate perhaps best known for his syndicated sex-advice column ‘Savage Love.’ He’s also the host and curator of the HUMP! Film Festival at the Music Box Theater, an annual event that puts short pornography films made by amateurs on the big screen.
HUMP! Fest started in Chicago in 2005 and now tours internationally. We talk to Savage about his multi-faceted career, adoption by same-sex couples and The Real O’Neals, a new ABC sitcom loosely based on Savage’s experience growing up and coming out as a teenager in Catholic family in Chicago.
