Slow Food envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet. Volunteers will directly support the work and mission of preSERVE and Slow Food Chicago through much needed garden work at the preSERVE garden.

Community Partners for Affordable Housing

Community Partners for Affordable Housing provides access to quality housing that is permanently affordable for current and future generations. WBEZ volunteers will support the organization by helping to rehab one of CPAH’s homes.

Forest Preserves of Cook County at Miami Woods
Saturday, May 31 || 9am - 12pm

The Forest Preserves of Cook County’s mission is to acquire, restore and manage lands for the purpose of protecting and preserving public open space with its natural wonders, significant prairies, forests, wetlands, rivers, streams, and other landscapes with all of its associated wildlife, in a natural state for the education, pleasure and recreation of the public now and in the future. Volunteers will help to protect and preserve open space through restoring the natural area of Miami Woods, which contains important remnants of the original grasslands and woodlands that formed the natural heritage of the greater Chicago area.

The Talking Farm
Saturday, May 31 || 10:30am - 2pm

The Talking Farm cultivates healthy, sustainable communities by supporting the production and appreciation of locally grown food.  WBEZ volunteers will help to create the farm literally from scratch – cutting down brush and weeds, adding compost to the clay soil, building fences and berms and roads.

Morton Grove School District 70
Saturday, May 31 || 9am - 1pm

Morton Grove School District’s mission is to maximize learning by challenging, guiding and inspiring individuals. Volunteers will help Morton Grove create a community garden and volunteers will build raised garden beds, help students paint and plant in the beds, and other general maintenance of the garden.

Garden Center Services
Friday, May 30|| 10am - 1pm

Garden Center Services was established in 1956 as a grassroots effort to support children with developmental disabilities and their families. Volunteers and clients will work on a joint beautification project together. The goal is not only to landscape and clean up the outdoor area and wash the organization’s van, but also to create an opportunity for clients and volunteers to interact and have fun together!

Easter Seals DuPage-Fox Valley

Easter Seals DuPage of Fox Valley’s mission is to enable infants, children, and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum independence, and to provide support for the families who love and care for them. WBEZ volunteers will support Easter Seals by running a “Fun Fest” with activities for children and their families.

The GardenWorks Project
Saturday, May 31 || 9am - 11am

The GardenWorks Project is a grassroots, volunteer‐led project working to relieve hunger in Chicago’s West suburbs by providing families in need of food pantry assistance with home vegetable gardens and coaching. Volunteers will prepare and plant GardenWork’s community garden space, in which vegetables are grown to support the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.
