The Chicago mayor’s office and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced that they were close to finishing a proposed draft of the promised consent decree Friday.

The consent decree is a legally-binding agreement that would provide a framework for federal oversight over the Chicago Police Department. A draft of the proposal is due to a judge by Sept. 1.

The consent decree will address additional training, use of force, accountability and discipline within CPD after a scathing Department of Justice report in January 2017.

Morning Shift looks into the latest on this story and what we can expect in the final draft proposal.
