In the Rockford area, the budget impasse meant the shuttering of Redeploy Illinois, a program that helped kids stay out of jail and saved the state money.
John Johnson, juvenile services coordinator for Winnebago County, says six months of funding doesn’t really do them much good.
“It took us a year to build the program before, and I’m assuming it will take us at least that long to get it back up and running again,” he said.
And Johnson says since the program closed in October, they’ve seen more juvenile crime.
