It was a big and challenging weekend for the Democratic party. Hillary Clinton announced Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate Friday evening, and the pair held a rally in Florida Saturday morning. Then, the party came under fire after Wikileaks released emails showing party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz never believed Bernie Sanders had a chance at the presidential nomination. She has since resigned.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a thousand supporters of Sanders protested Hillary Clinton’s candidacy in Philadelphia on the eve of the Democratic National Convention. As the DNC kicks off, Morning Shift sits down with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois to talk about all of that and more.
