Growing up, journalist Christina Paschyn, developed a deep curiosity for the Tatars of Crimea. In 2012, she began making a documentary about their exile during Soviet times and their post-Soviet return home.

After Russia invaded and annexed Crimea in 2014, Paschyn’s focus changed to create a comprehensive history of the Tatars and the existential threats they face.

Paschyn joins us to talk about her film A Struggle for Home: The Crimean Tatars, screening at the Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago on Saturday, May 7, 2016. She is also a lecturer of journalism-in-residence at Northwestern University in Qatar.
