Like every year, there were some notable titles missing from the Oscar nominations. One of those films, is Life Itself from Chicago-based Kartemquin films. It’s based on the memoirs of former-Chicago film critic, Roger Ebert. The film was shortlisted by the Academy, but to the surprise of many, wasn’t nominated. This isn’t the first time a hit documentary from Kartemquin didn’t make the final cut. It’s the third. Steve James is the director and producer of Life Itself, as well as Hoop Dreams and The Interrupters, two other films slighted by the Academy. (Photo: Flickr/Sound Opinions)
