Thailand is in the midst of a political power struggle. Protesters want Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to resign and have called for an interim government pending new elections. Yingluck declared a state of emergency in January and began a crackdown on demonstrations. The human costs have been high.At least 20 people have been killed, including three children and scores more have been injured at anti-government protests in and around Bangkok. But last Sunday, elections began in five Thai provinces where polls had been unable to open due to unrest. Patrick Winn is a senior Southeast Asia correspondent for Global Post.
