Today, President Trump’s E.P.A. released new coal pollution rules. The proposals roll back stricter Obama-era regulations on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. The E.P.A.’s report also admits the new standards could cause the early deaths of an additional 1400 people. President Trump will lead a political rally today in “coal country”. The President will be in Charleston, West Virginia to celebrate the news with his supporters. To discuss the consequences, we’re joined by Janet McCabe, former E.P.A. acting assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation. She played a lead role in framing, shaping and implementing Obama’s Clean Air Act standards. McCabe is now senior law fellow at the Environmental Law and Policy Center.
