In October, the Israeli parliament will vote on The Prawer Plan, which proposes to evict Bedouins from their homes and redevelop the settlement where they live. The plan would offer compensation and land to the displaced group. Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told Reuters that “We are determined to narrow the gap (between the Negev and the rest of the country).” “They are citizens of Israel and are entitled to all the opportunities associated with being citizens,” he continued. According to Reuters, the Israeli government has invested nearly $5.6 billion in the construction of military bases and communities in the Negev.
