After the car bomb attack that killed 37 people over the weekend in Ankara, Turkish President, Tayyip Erdoğan, vowed to “bring terrorism to its knees.”
The authorities in Turkey say one of the suicide bombers was a Kurdish woman. Police detained dozens of Kurdish suspects in southern Turkey. In response to the terrorist attack, the Turkish Air Force bombed rebel targets in Northern Iraq.
Henri J.Barkey is director of Middle East Programs at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He’s author of the book Turkey’s Syria Predicament. Barkey, who is currently in Kurdistan, will tell us why he believes Erdoğan’s moves have less to do with the bombing and more to do with his ongoing battle with the Kurds.
