The fate of a century old one lane covered bridge is under debate in a northwestern suburb.
The Long Grove Bridge needs a $700,000 overhaul but it doesn’t qualify for government funds so locals would foot most of the bill. But a new almost identical two-lane bridge would be subsidized costing the town a lot less. Supporters of both options cite safety as the most important issue.
Village trustees will make a decision later this year. WBEZ’s Marc Garber reports.
