A federal judge is allowing the city of Chicago to begin construction at viaducts in the Uptown neighborhood, despite a legal challenge from homeless people who live there. The tent city residents under the bridges at Wilson and Lawrence wanted the city to either provide housing or allow them to relocate their tents to a nearby school during renovations. The judge said chronic homelessness is a serious issue, but there is no legal obligation for the city to provide housing. The city is offering to take the viaduct residents to a shelter south of the Loop.
