Zenaida Quinones is one of a couple thousand Puerto Ricans who have relocated to Chicago after Hurricane Maria left much of the island without food, water, or electricity. For Quinones, leaving home for an unfamiliar new place is just one of the challenges she’s dealing with. She’s also managing the care of her 11-year-old son, who has severe autism, while trying to find a safe home on an extremely limited budget. As part of our series on Puerto Ricans starting over in Chicago, WBEZ’s Mariah Woelfel spent time with Quinones in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
