The President of the Chicago Urban League said former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy spewed “racist rhetoric,” in an appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday. In the interview, McCarthy talked about how officers in Chicago are not aggressively policing because of criticism since the release of the Laquan McDonald video.The president, Shari Runner, said the focus on anti-police sentiment misses important issues, like the city’s racial inequality.
