Former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is running for his old office again. Stroger was following in his father John’s footsteps when he became Cook County Board President in 2006. Todd Stroger’s tenure was marred by scandal, and after approving an unpopular county sales tax, he was beaten by current Board President Toni Preckwinkle in 2010. But Stroger sees an opportunity following the repeal of Preckwinkle’s unpopular sweetened-beverage tax. In a statement, Preckwinkle calls the Cook County system she inherited from Stroger “broken” and says she is confident she will win re-election.
