Former Spokane, Washington police chief Anne Kirkpatrick was one of the three finalists to replace Garry McCarthy as Chicago’s Police Superintendent. The mayor bypassed the official process and picked CPD veteran Eddie Johnson.

Now, Johnson is hiring Kirkpatrick to head a new Bureau of Professional Standards.

Kirkpatrick will be the chief liaison to the U.S. Department of Justice to carry out recommendations from its investigation.

When applying for the superintendent job, Kirkpatrick said she has zero tolerance for police bias. She said if biased cops remain in the department, it’s because of weak leadership.

CPD announced a number of other new hires including former Fox 32 anchor Robin Robinson.

She’ll be special adviser to the superintendent for community affairs.
