The US Congress has until September 17th to review the deal that was struck between the US, Iran and five other world powers. Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski announced today that she will support the Iran nuclear agreement, giving the White House the final vote needed to protect the accord from a Republican-led effort to defeat the measure. Backers of the deal needeed 34 votes in the Senate or 146 in the House of Representatives to sustain Obama’s veto if a Republican-sponsored resolution of disapproval passes both chambers. Republican lawmakers have voiced strong opposition to the deal. All 17 GOP presidential candidates have come out against the deal. The Israeli government has also voiced strong opposition, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, a number of Israeli military leaders have come out in favor of the deal, including people like Uzi Eilam, a retired IDF Brigadier General and the former Director General of the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission. Eilam joins us to discuss why he supports the deal. (Photo: Flickr/Israeli Defense Forces)
